At HAODQC, residents don't just live here — they run the place. Every resident holds a portfolio and actively manages the Centre, from chairing meetings to overseeing the kitchen, security, fundraising, and everything in between.
Resident Portfolios
Every Resident Has a Role
The resident-managed model is what makes HAODQC unique. Rather than being cared for passively, residents hold real responsibilities that keep the Centre running day to day.
Chairman
Chairs all meetings, represents the Centre externally, and oversees the overall running of the house.
Vice Chairman
Supports the Chairman, manages correctionals, transport coordination, and security oversight.
Treasurer
Manages all Centre finances, banking, budgets, and financial reporting including the Golf Day accounts.
Secretary
Records all minutes, manages donations received, coordinates correspondence and documentation.
Supporters Club & Applications
Manages the HAO Supporters Club membership and processes all new residency applications.
DSD & Hiring Goods
Liaises with the Department of Social Development and manages the HAO Hiring Services operation.
Petty Cash Administrator
Controls and accounts for all petty cash transactions and day-to-day small expenditures.
Staff, Website & Guest Room
Manages staff matters, the HAODQC website, and administers the guest room bookings.
Kitchen Manager
Oversees all meal preparation, kitchen operations, food ordering, and resident dietary needs.

House Life
How We Live Together
HAODQC is a shared home, and like any home, it works best when everyone contributes and respects one another. Residents meet regularly to discuss Centre matters, resolve issues, and plan for the future.
New residents serve a probationary period and are allocated a portfolio once settled. The community votes on major decisions — from admitting new residents to approving budgets and major purchases.

Residents & House Life — Common Questions
Everything families and applicants want to know about life at HAODQC.
Yes. Each resident has their own private bedroom, adapted for wheelchair use. Common areas — lounge, dining room, kitchen, and outdoor spaces — are shared. Residents are responsible for their own rooms.
New residents settle in and get to know the Centre and the community. Staff and residents monitor whether the placement is suitable for all parties. At the end of the probationary period, the residents vote on whether to offer full membership. If the placement is not working, either party may end the arrangement.
Yes. Residents are free to go out, attend appointments, visit family, or participate in activities outside the Centre. We ask that residents inform staff so appropriate care arrangements can be made in their absence.
Yes. We have a guest room available for family members visiting from out of town. The guest room is managed by Pieter van Greunen and must be booked in advance. A nominal fee applies.
