Urgent Needs

Our Most Pressing Needs

These needs directly affect safety, daily care, transport and the long-term sustainability of the Centre.

Most Urgent

Monthly Operating Shortfall

HAODQC faces a shortfall of approximately R25,000 per month between government subsidy and actual running costs. Regular monthly donations make the biggest difference.

Urgent

Staff Quarters Structural Repairs

Engineer-confirmed settlement and cracking require urgent attention. Cash donations, building materials, labour and professional services are needed.

Safety

Nurse Call Bell System

A reliable call bell system with backup power is a fundamental safety requirement so residents can call for assistance at any hour.

Equipment & Goods

Equipment and Items Needed

Physical items may be donated new or in good used condition. These items support daily care, transport, staff wellbeing and operations.

Needed

Heavy-Duty Trolley

A sturdy trolley to transport goods around the Centre, reduce physical strain on staff and residents, and support daily operations.

Needed

Toyota Quantum Tyres

Two Toyota Quantum bus tyres need replacing. The buses are essential for resident transport, outings and operational errands.

Needed

Beds & Mattresses

Six three-quarter beds for the staff quarters. Our care staff need proper rest between shifts to continue providing quality care.

Needed

Storage Container

Secure storage is needed for tools, garden furniture and equipment. The current wooden shed is damaged, leaks and is no longer suitable.

Needed

Air-Conditioning — Lounge

Air-conditioning in the lounge would make gatherings, meetings and socialising more comfortable during hot weather.

Wishlist

Office Supplies

Printing paper, laminator, laminating sheets and basic admin supplies help keep the Centre running smoothly every day.

Projects & General

Projects, Improvements and Ongoing Needs

These needs support HAODQC’s fundraising projects, events programme, safety, visibility and daily operations.

  • Catering Items — HAO Hiring Services

Crockery, cutlery, glassware, linens, tablecloths, tables and chairs help expand the HAO Hiring Services project, which generates income for the Centre.

  • Wheels & Heels Events Garden

Furniture, lighting, umbrellas and stands would improve the Events Garden, Book Markets and community fundraising events.

  • Removable Washing Lines — Twirly Dryers

Three replacements for existing fixed washing lines would open up more flexible outdoor space for events and community activities.

  • Visible Signage

Professional external signage helps donors, visitors, volunteers and hiring clients find HAODQC at 18 Hafele Street, Durbanville.

  • Panic Buttons

Panic buttons connected to the security system and within reach of residents while in bed are a critical safety measure.

  • Portable Barbecue

A portable barbecue would support Wheels & Heels events, resident gatherings, fundraisers and community celebrations.

Monthly Giving

Regular Giving Makes the Biggest Difference

Government subsidy covers only a portion of HAODQC’s monthly expenses. The remaining gap must be raised through community support, donations and fundraising projects.

A regular monthly contribution, even a small one, helps the Centre plan ahead and continue providing reliable care.

R50/month

Supports basic monthly needs and helps close the operating gap.

R100/month

Contributes towards food, toiletries and household requirements.

R500/month

Helps cover utilities, maintenance and essential running costs.

R1,000/month

Makes a significant contribution to HAODQC’s monthly shortfall.
